Testimonials

We loved working with Davenport Creative Arts Therapy! Our therapist was patient, receptive and worked well with our child, and understood the needs of the family and applied her knowledge to her sessions with our child. We will definitely recommend the practice to our friends.

This was my first experience with art therapy, and I’m so grateful to my therapist and the team here for making it a really healing and transformative experience. From my first intake meeting I’ve felt safe and seen and the space has allowed me to be vulnerable as I processed and worked through things these past few months. Thank you!!

Thank you for the groups, and the unique safe space you created that let us explore and flourish! I am grateful for the time and care you spent to make sure everyone felt heard, understood and represented.

My sessions with Sharon were absolutely life-changing. The value of having a space where I was heard, supported, and understood cannot be understated. When words failed, drawing was how I was able to express my inner experience, which Sharon helped me process. I’m so incredibly grateful for my time with her.

Hands-down changed my life. Robin was the first therapist I began seeing as an adult and she is so thoughtful, makes me feel safe and heard while trying out different methods that best work for me. She is a one of a kind person I am grateful to have worked with.

Thank you for helping me get to where I am - and where I am about to go. I will reflect on this period of time together as having been one of the most powerful learning and growth-filled experiences of my life. You have such a natural warmth about you, and your endless compassion will forever encourage me to find compassion for myself. I learned to let go of perfection and let in love, humor and acceptance in its place. Thank you.

Abby was instrumental in my decision to finally seek treatment and support for my eating disorder. Her kindness, willingness to ask thoughtful questions, and desire to understand my experience and background as a POC was not something that I have experienced in therapy before. Anyone would be lucky to work with Abby and I’m very pleased that I had the pleasure to do so. She has made a huge difference in my life.

I’m very happy with Davenport Creative Arts Therapy. I was having anxiety and had a depressed mood because of work and other personal issues. I felt down, lonely, empty, sad in the morning, having anxiety episodes on my way to work, etc.. To me, all of these symptoms were new so I was really scared and thought that those feelings were going to stay forever. But after meeting and working with Donna for a while, I feel alive again, now I appreciate everything around me, feel happy and motivated again, try to put everything in perspective while looking for a balance between myself and others around me. This really helps me with work-related relationships. Getting out of my head allowed me to feel peace and confidence again as I was pushing myself really hard. Donna gave me a lot of great advice while saying specific words that allow me to understand and accept situations in a healthier way. Her kindness and professional advice are priceless to me and my wife. I’m still a work-in-progress but not scared anymore, I feel 90% better now and that’s amazing to me.

Daniele was so great! Such a nonanxious presence. So bright in her disposition. Very supportive and encouraging. I most appreciated the practical tips, steps, and DBT techniques. I would have appreciated receiving some of those even earlier. I loved the final whiteboard activity to close out our time. Thank you for everything!

I’ve never felt so understood and personally improved until after my time with Emily. I looked forward to every session! While I was nervous starting therapy for the first time after some major life changes, Emily helped me feel comfortable, and I quickly and willingly to opened up to her like I was speaking with a caring and nurturing mother. She listens carefully and suggests options to help yourself improve your day-to-day activities.

Ms. Davenport’s knowledge on art therapy really helped me with my research and helped me gain more knowledge on the effects of art therapy on a person’s psychological and emotional well-being. She replied to me promptly and with a great deal of respect. Thank you Ms. Davenport for your insightful and meaningful response.

I attended an art therapy group with Daniele. I learned a lot about myself during the group and enjoyed it immensely. Daniele was a great facilitator and highly recommend her if you plan to join a group. I look forward to working with her again in her next group later this month.”

I’ve been helped in so many ways, and my life has changed my life for the better. I would recommend Davenport Creative Arts Therapy to any young adult in today’s world looking for help with coping skills and life stressors. I learned how to use creativity to heal and how to love myself again.

I saw Emily every week for almost 2.5 years after struggling with a number of mental health issues and their effects for far too long. She helped with with mindfulness, art therapy, DBT, and, perhaps most importantly, validated my feelings without fail. She was also available whenever I had a few crisis moments throughout those years, and helped me get through them with wise mind. I made an enormous amount of progress with her encouragement to keep doing the work. She is a blessing, a healer, and a guide, and I highly recommend her.

I came to this practice looking to heal many parts of myself and learn to practice kindness and balance - While this is a continuous journey, Robyn has helped me greatly to honor my experiences, accept a range of emotions and move forward with more compassion. Thank you for everything!

Daniele led a nurturing therapy group. I left each group with clearer thinking and lighter mood. Daniele established a great container for the 10 of us making me feel validated. Level of vocal participation is up to the attendee. Daniele was a capable and empathetic leader and encouraged the group to take the reins and hold group conversations if there was curiosity.
— L.C., 40, Male Group Participant
Emily is an amazing therapist - her professional skills and experience are perfectly balanced with her warm and compassionate nature. I saw her for over a year and almost immediately felt comfortable talking to her - which is pretty unheard of with therapy. She’s well versed in DBT and, in my experience, always adapted to meet me where I was at. She really helped me work through things and build skills to become a healthier person. I’ve seen a lot of therapists, and my experience with Emily was definitely the best with the most sustained results for me so far. She’s relatable, professional and caring, and should probably get bonus points because her practice is super cozy and welcoming!
— A.S., 25, Female Client, Brooklyn, NY
I’d like to say with great confidence that Emily is one of the best Art Therapists and clinicians that I’ve ever seen.
— -Michelle Jung, M.D., Board Certified Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist, NY
I worked with Abby and the Davenport Creative Arts Therapy Team for a year and a half, and it was by far the best experience I had in therapy. To begin, the team collaborated with my insurance, which can be so difficult for clients to have to navigate on their own when we also are struggling with our mental health. Abby treated me with so much respect and dignity. She took the time to listen to my accounts, and paused and asked questions about my identity as a woman of color to help us both understand how my identity impacts my world and interaction with others. In fact, when I recommended a show to her that portrays the experience of a woman of color I identified with, she watched it and we talked about it during our sessions at length! We used art, talk, and meditation as different modalities in our sessions which I loved. I feel so lucky to have found Abby, and I can say with confidence that I have found my voice, my confidence, and the strength to heal from childhood trauma because of her.

Emily is a wonderful therapist and helped me address my anxiety. She’s skilled with grounding techniques and easy to talk to which made me more comfortable!
— S.S., 26, Female Client, New York, NY
My experience with Emily was absolutely life changing. Prior to our sessions, I’d never explored therapy before and was finally willing to take charge of my mental and emotional health. Emily was the first person with whom I did a session and I knew instantly we would be a great match. She is so thoughtful, mindful, listens with full intentions, and always offers kind suggestions for coping methods on the days on between our sessions. She coached me through living as a full-fledged adult, handling my own traumas while having to go about my day to day business. I learned how to prioritize and compartmentalize the pieces of my life and she helped give me confidence with each passing day. She felt like a confidant and friend, rather than a therapist, which helped ease our sessions. I would 100% recommend her to anyone as she has given me the tools needed to navigate my rollercoaster life.

From our first phone conversation a year ago, it was very clear that Emily was kind, patient, understanding, and genuinely eager to help. Since then, our weekly sessions have become my solid ground during an extremely tumultuous year. Emily is the first therapist I’ve found who is truly committed to understanding me. She is 100% judgement free, and approaches my anxiety and depression with the utmost compassion. In each session, we discuss new skills to help manage my emotions — something that I’ve never practiced with another therapist before. Emily continues to give me the confidence to feel openly and be kind to myself in the process.
— 31, Female Client, New York, NY
I’ve been with Emily for years and I can’t begin to thank her enough. She has helped me work through a significant amount of past trauma. I’ve seen many therapists in the past, and none were ever truly effective in making me feel like I had the potential to work past my pain. Through her dedicated time and engagement, I have come leaps and bounds. I’m excited to see where we go from here, because I know with her help, I will continue to achieve the betterment I have been seeking.

Looking back over the past two-years that I worked with Emily, it reminds me of a poem that was famous when I was younger, called ‘Footprints in the Sand’. I have a good faith, so this is not to say Emily was my higher power, but she helped me through some really difficult times the last two-years. Emily has been a great listener, leader, guide, supporter and Art Therapist. She taught me to let art be my therapy and it works well for me. I could not of asked for a better person to work with.
— G.M., Male Client, Queens, NY
Emily was incredibly warm, kind and knowledgable. She hosted a very informative workshop for a group of parents. The workshop was 1 hour in length but it went by in a snap because the activities and content were engaging and so well presented. After the workshop I was immediately able to implement some of the tools and see the benefit they had in my daily life. I would recommend these services to anyone of any age!

I am privileged to have worked with Emily as her first hire at Davenport Creative Arts Therapy for a year. The experience I had with Emily as my supervisor was one I will never forget. As a supervisor, Emily was always supportive, filled with endless insight, and always just a quick phone call away if I was ever in need of her help. Emily has expanded my knowledge of DBT and mindfulness. She has given me the space and support to grow exponentially as a therapist and artist. Her abilities as a supervisor, along with her enthusiasm and passion for working with her clients and helping them make positive changes, makes Emily one of the best Art Therapist’s I know. Along with this - the community Emily has inspired and developed between all the therapists/professionals working at DCAT has made this an unforgettable working environment/experience.

My child experienced issues due to a difficult divorce. Our work with Emily has greatly helped my child become better able to express her feelings and needs so that she feels safe, happy and loved. I am grateful for Emily’s patient and calm manner and ability to focus sharply on the needs of my child.
— Mother of 10-year-old client, Queens, NY
Emily is passionate about guiding her clients to use effective skills to enhance treatment. The changes I have witnessed are remarkable, to say the least. We have seen Emily show the importance of using art as a tool to connect with emotions within the scope of also teaching DBT skills and Mindfulness. It is a humbling experience to watch Emily with her clients. They learn to trust again. Her repeated success in helping her clients is remarkable and impressive. She is gentle in her approach and I find that clients look forward to spending time with Emily in Art Therapy and DBT skills groups. They constantly ask for more Art Therapy as they continue to improve. Finally, I have witnessed the transformation of many individuals and I can validate that Emily’s work is important, progressive and impressive. It is thrilling and rewarding to see individuals changing and growing, right before our eyes! I can offer nothing but praise regarding Emily’s professionalism and dedication in her capacity as Art Therapist, DBT Coach and DBT Skills Leader.
— -Alexis C., Special Education Teacher & Colleague, CT
Emily was my supervisor for over a year at New York City Children’s Center and she was wonderful to work with. Emily truly understands and models the tenants of DBT and mindfulness that she teaches her clients. She believes passionately in the interventions that she provides, and that enthusiasm in turn helps her clients believe that they can make positive change in their lives. As a supervisor, Emily was supportive, informative, and always quick to help.
— Stella Fischl, M.A., ATR-BC, LCAT & Colleague, New York, NY
Emily is one of the most compassionate, professional therapists I have had the pleasure of working with. She is excellent with families, children and adults.
— -R.K., Licensed Clinical Social Worker & Colleague , New York, N
Emily came to our office to do a corporate art therapy session and it was such a fresh of breath air! It’s nice to be able to offer the employees a creative break in their work day to relax and de-stress through drawing. Emily guided us as a group and made everyone feel super comfortable to share our artwork at the end of the session. We’re definitely looking forward to incorporating more art therapy (and more) into our wellness initiative!
— Rebecca W., Corporate Wellness Client, New York, NY
I have worked with Emily since the beginning of summer, 2015 and in that time, she has been a serial overachiever. As a Village Subject Matter Expert, she provides moms and dads all over the country with insightful, practical advice on how to navigate a wide range of parenting challenges. Her writing is articulate yet accessible but most importantly, she demonstrates a degree of empathy that is difficult to achieve in indirect interactions. I recommend her highly to anyone needing an expert in emotional/mental child development.
— Chris Winn, Wellness Consultation Client
Emily is encouraging and inspiring! I really got a sense of creativity and possibility by our session together. She helped me see how I could essentially design and take myself where I eagerly wanted to go!
— Female Career Coaching Client, 35, New Jersey
